ABSTRACT

There is an old theatrical saying: the best part of any job is the moment actor's get it; from then on its downhill all the way. To prevent this from happening to them, make sure they are fully prepared for the rehearsals, and that means doing their homework. Many actors waste the time before the job begins, fondly imagining that it will all come out right in the rehearsal period, and arrive at the theatre or on set shockingly unprepared. Becoming more skillful is a very acceptable and enjoyable way of spending their time when not acting. And research into the background of the part, the period, and the people will give them a great store of knowledge to feed on during their homework. At the 2003 Academy Awards ceremony, Peter O'Toole, who had been nominated seven times in previous years, was awarded an Honorary Oscar.
