ABSTRACT

The continuous dramas on television, the soaps, must produce a lot of airtime each day. To do this, they have a studio where there are a lot of cameras. The actors are rehearsed with their moves while the director also rehearses where the cameras will go and puts it all down in a camera script. To know which camera is on actor's, keep an eye out for the red light. If they see the red light out of the corner of their eye, then it is probably shooting a wide shot of the scene from the side, so they can use their body language to help convey the thoughts and emotions. Often the boom operator will bring the microphone in for a close shot and take it away for a wide shot, again to get the correct sound perspective. The lighting will be precise, not the generalized lighting that a multicamera studio demands.
