ABSTRACT
Brown was born in Durham, North Carolina, the third and youngest child. While she was still an infant, the family moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she received her education. After graduating from Spelman College in 1932, she continued art studies at Ohio State University. Upon completion of her studies, she became an art instructor from 1943 to 1946 at Spelman College and later in the public schools of Durham, North Carolina, Atlanta, Georgia, and Newark, New Jersey, where she taught for twenty-six years, retiring in 1974.
