ABSTRACT

A native of Kansas City, Kansas, Yancey completed her bachelor of arts degree in biochemistry and molecular biology at Northwestern University and her medical degree at Duke. For five years, she juggled her work as a general practitioner in clinics and emergency rooms. She subsequently returned to residency training, completing her specialty in preventive medicine and master’s degree in public health at UCLA. Currently a professor in the Department of Health Services at the UCLA School of Public Health, she recently returned to academia full time after five years in public health practice, first as Director of Public Health for the city of Richmond, Virginia, and then as Director of Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion for the Los Angeles County department of Health Services.
