ABSTRACT

Cooper is Jamaican born of African descent. As a young child, Cooper liked reading poetry and historical fiction and decided to write both when she grew up. The Red Caterpillar on College Street is her first book of children’s poetry and has been widely acclaimed. The Canadian Book Review Annual said in 1989 that is it “a refreshing change from the almost adult-oriented and lavish picture books of more affluent publishers.” Cooper is completing Waiting for the Moon, a collection of short stories, and a series of children’s stories entitled Fatima’s Nightgown.
