ABSTRACT

Creating music for film, TV, visual art exhibitions, or dance productions are some of the more popular school music activities, as well as being exciting projects for professional musicians. There is a strong tradition in many of these collaborative fields, including the opera, ballet, musical theater, film scoring, TV program themes, music video, and so on. There are many reasons why musical collaborations with other creative arts disciples can be fruitful and inspiring. It has become common place for composers to do entire music sound tracks on computer, and the ability of computers to handle digital image and video has made the integral creation of cross disciplinary work viable. Rather than explore all of this rich territory here, we will focus on some of the issues, techniques, and processes for utilizing the computer to create, synchronize, and deliver music for events and productions that are driven by a visual narrative in particular.
