ABSTRACT
Although the commodification of rural landscapes and cultures has the potential to contribute to population and economic growth, it can also lead to a process of overdevelopment [that] has the capacity to undermine the very attributes which made the countryside attractive, such as idealized farming landscapes, picturesque country towns, and scenic natural environments.
