ABSTRACT

One of the fi rst things that a screener needs to establish is the applicant’s stated motivation for wanting to be a foster parent. As discussed in chapter 5, their stated reason may have no relationship with the actual motivation, but it does off er a starting point. Typically, foster home applicants will say they have applied because they “love” children. Sometimes applicants will use the “love” word to distract from what they perceive to be the real reason, as in, “We love children-and we could use the money.”
