ABSTRACT

Second and third interviews should be individual interviews with the applicant and his or her spouse. Usually it is better to schedule the second interview at the home with the partner who handles most of the homemaking duties. In addition to the interview, the screener should use the visit as an occasion to tour the house. Notations should be made of the number of bedrooms and baths, cleanliness levels, whether the kitchen is organized and tidy or otherwise, and whether there is anything inappropriate in the home that might raise questions-for example, a prominently displayed calendar with nude photos of women, artwork that suggests violence or radical causes or demeaning language, or fi rearms on display in areas potentially accessible to children.
