ABSTRACT

In the previous chapters, little attention has been devoted to the fact that in a substantial number of incidences, treatment does not proceed as smoothly as portrayed in treatment manuals. Unfortunately, in the real world, there are a number of complications that might interfere with our treatment plans. In this chapter we will discuss a number of these complicating factors that, when not appropriately dealt with, will impede treatment progress. One such factor is violence. Violence can be directed to others, as is the case in domestic violence, but can also be addressed to oneself, such as in self-injury or suicide.
