ABSTRACT
Patients with substance-use disorders frequently go through periods of abstinence or nonproblematic use after receiving treatment. However, a number of these patients will eventually engage in problematic drinking or drug use again. A subgroup of substance users will cycle through periods of relapse, treatment reentry, and recovery.
