ABSTRACT

So what is videojournalism? The term originally emerged to describe a style of fi lming where a journalist used a small lightweight video camera to single-handedly fi lm and report a story, instead of working with a crew consisting of a cameraperson, soundperson and even lighting technician or ‘sparks’. Videojournalism was a term that was devised after it had become a practice and once broadcasters recognised it (see Chapter 3 on VJ pioneers). Now, while the principal defi nition remains, the application is much wider and the term is actually being used to describe all fi lming using small video cameras.
