ABSTRACT

Decisions are never made in the light of the perfect knowledge assumed by classical microeconomics, for obvious reasons. The human brain could not cope with omniscience, even if conditions in the world could ever be made favorable to it. Simplification is therefore not always over-simplification, and it can be a mistake to criticize it as such. Nonetheless, any simplification embodies some decisions in advance of making further decisions possible; it facilitates the recognition of some options and perspectives at the expense of others.
