ABSTRACT

Much is said and written about special schools sharing their expertise with mainstream schools, parents and others but the question of how special schools themselves ensure that their staff maintain and develop up-to-date skills and understanding seems to attract less attention. Yet it is crucial that special school staff are at the forefront of thought and action in educating pupils with SEN. Also, a range of high quality training and professional development can act as an encouragement in recruiting and retaining staff at all levels.
