ABSTRACT

Melanie Klein became a member of the Budapest Psychoanalytical Society in 1919. These were exciting times for the development of psychoanalysis. In 1920, Freud introduced the concept of the life and death instincts, revised his ideas about anxiety and guilt, and formulated his structural theory of the mind. This opened new vistas to psychoanalytical theory and practice.
