ABSTRACT

Of the seven young people whose lethal outcomes we have so far analyzed in this book, only two – Gloria, and Peter – had received no therapy before their killings. The other five – Vivienne (Chapter 4), Kipland (Chapter 5), Eric and Dylan (Chapter 6), and Sinedu (Chapter 7) – had all received at least some form of treatment. First, we will look at the therapies of these young people who did progress to violent outcomes. Then, I will be discussing how I think psychological treatment of such individuals might unfold in the future, if focused throughout on the emergence of necessary conditions for life-destruction: social isolation, dissociation of the personality, unbearable emotion, and possession by affect.
