ABSTRACT

Cognitive rehabilitation for people with dementia is not primarily aiming to cure or reduce impairment at the neurological level. Instead, the aim is to work together to ®nd ways of dealing with the problems that arise as a result of cognitive changes, so as to enable people to participate in interactions and engage in desired activities as best they can, within their own personal and social context. Rehabilitation is essentially a collaborative endeavour. Rehabilitation is not a treatment that can be `done to' or `administered to' someone, but an approach that engages the person and attempts to harness the person's own resources.
