A school of economics which began with Carl Menger in 1871. This branch of economics was a reaction to the German historical

school which had despised timeless universal economic laws, preferring the view that economies develop through stages. Both macroand microeconomic theories are propounded by the Austrians. The former has been concerned with the theory of economic cycles and the latter with prices, interest rates and investment.
