On the international stage, for reasons which will have become apparent from a reading of the preceding chapters, both the sympathy and support normally reserved for nations engaged in such a heroic and at least partly successful national liberation struggle against overwhelmingly superior odds has, in the case of Chechnya, been extremely limited from the outset.
