ABSTRACT
In this chapter I argue that it is not young people that have disengaged from politics, as critics commonly lament, but contemporary political culture that has become disconnected from the language, values and aspirations of young people. In a world of interactive communication, politics still takes the form of a one-way conversation which is remote from daily experience, over complicated, demographically exclusive, excessively solemn and unlikely to result in tangible consequences.
