ABSTRACT

As the key actors within the provision of Internet services, and the link to the consumer, ISPs are crucial to the processes of rule-making, adjudication and complaints-handling for the Internet. While they maintain their own terms of service with their consumers, and many developed their own corporate codes of conduct, they are increasingly cooperating in Europe to develop pan industry national codes of conduct, and are under pressure from the EC to develop Europe-wide codes. This chapter contains an analysis of these codes. Our research focused on the ISP codes of conduct, monitoring the content, constitution, coverage, communication and compliance-related material in the code.
