ABSTRACT

Rose Wanjera was one of the lucky ones. A Kenyan widow in her mid-twenties, Wanjera was suffering from pregnancy related complications, according to a 2003 New York Times article. She went to a local clinic funded by Marie Stopes International (MSI). There, she received help and immediately enrolled in a maternal healthcare program.
