ABSTRACT

Understanding and using the principles and practices of RQ explained in this book are as relevant and important to the relationship between a professional advisor/consultant and a family business client as they are to family business relationships themselves. Collaborative relationships among professional advisors as they serve family businesses is also a place where RQ has direct impact. This chapter is divided into two parts: part I—The Family Business Advisory Relationship addresses how RQ impacts the relationship of the advisor with a family business client. In part II—The Role of the Family Business Advisor, we focus on the role of the family business advisor/consultant as a relationship change agent; the lessons that RQ teaches us about it; and effective interprofessional collaboration when working with family businesses.
