ABSTRACT

Leadership in a family business is like no other kind of leadership in the world! Like the leader of any business the leader of a family business must be strong, visionary, creative, focused, and expertly knowledgeable about the company and its industry. Leaders must also be able to translate vision and strategy into action by inspiring and motivating people. Family business leaders must be able to do all of this and more. In addition to shouldering the demands of leading the business, the family business leader also carries the weight of leading the family in the business, and doing both simultaneously. The leader of a family business usually feels not only the need for a degree in business but one in family psychology as well.
