ABSTRACT

The motivation behind Moe forming a second record company apart from Asch Records likely came from several events. Escaping the legal and practical difficulties that had come to be associated with Asch Records and the Stinson Trading Co. agreements would be understandable. At the same time, however, Moe was demonstrating a change in musical direction as well. Later on in his career, Moe would again create other company names when directions for new material would arise. Whatever his motivation, however, Moe still believed in the possibilities of recording, and after weathering the demise of Asch Records, he formed his second label: DISC Records of America.
