ABSTRACT

In 1891 and the first part of 1892, Willie Gill apparently produced no new play. It was the first time in years. And in that same year his I name disappeared from the New York trade directories. Although mother Janet and her candy store on Third Avenue were still shown in the listings, there was no sign of Willie Gill, author. Not in person, anyway. Not until he resurfaced at the new address, 422 Willis Avenue. And as for the trade papers, in which he rarely made a paragraphed appearance in any case, nothing appeared. Willie, more transparent than ever, had apparently vanished.
