There are few life decisions that carry greater emotional and practical import than whether or not to have a child. A planned, wanted child is one of life’s most joyful experiences. A baby can bring a stepfamily and second marriage together. However, an unwanted pregnancy or a poorly thought-out decision can tear the marriage asunder. The time a couple is most likely to split up in first marriages is 3 months before or after the birth of a first child.
