ABSTRACT

HUMAN POTENTIAL School has an influence on each child’s self-perception, or self-esteem. As early as 1963, research suggested that a student’s self-esteem decreases as the child continues in school (Combs & Soper, 1963). The topic continues to fuel research across the decades. Wiggins and Schatz (1994) refer to studies such as Bloom (1977), Clemes and Bean (1981), and Wiggins (1987) as empirical evidence of the importance of self esteem to school achievement.
