ABSTRACT
Shame is not one of Ekman’s seven, but Tomkins and Izard include it on their lists. For Ekman and other emotion researchers, shame is a combination of fear and sadness. For them, it is not a basic emotion. It is number one among most therapists as the cause of psychopathology (Nathanson, 1992).
