ABSTRACT

Pacific-Atlantic University (PAU) is a large, multi-campus institution, with campuses located throughout the country. All the faculty members from Pacific-Atlantic University that participated in this study taught in the same geographic region of the United States, under the same regional director of education. Not unlike part-timers form Distance Learning University (DLU), PAU's part-time faculty members' responsibilities lay primarily within the classroom. The process begins with an initial screening by a faculty recruiter who confirms that a potential faculty member meets the minimum requirements. Faculty members de-emphasize the lecture format in favor of facilitation as a way to incorporate the professional experience and knowledge that PAU students bring into the classroom. Part- and full-time faculty participants from PAU currently were. Participants expressed satisfaction with the standardized curriculum asserting that the institution offers a quality education delivered by quality faculty. Pacific-Atlantic University has a formal faculty evaluation process in place for part-time faculty.
