ABSTRACT

Southeastern College (SC) is a single-campus, for-profit institution located in a small town in the Eastern United States with a population of about 1,000 residents. Southeastern College is regionally accredited by the Middle States Association on Higher Education, and is a privately owned college. Faculty work life at Southeastern College, as with Miller College, is dominated by teaching. The responsibilities of a faculty member in the academic advisor' role are similar to those of an academic advisor at a traditional college or university. The attendance and dress code policies are a tradition of the institution dating back to when Southeastern College was strictly a business school that did not grant degrees. The course development and curriculum review process involve a great deal of faculty input. The curriculum review committee at Southeastern College is made up of both faculty and administrators, faculty comprise the majority of the committee. The consolidation of decision-making authority has led to problematic communication and faculty discontent.
