ABSTRACT

Once upon a time there was a brother and a sister who had neither mother nor father, and they lived together all by themselves. Because they loved each other so very much, they committed a sin that they should not have committed. Later, as her time drew near, the sister gave birth to a boy, and the brother had the boy secretly baptized. Then he carved a cross on the baby’s shoulder with the words, “Crivòliu, baptized, son of a brother and sister.” * After the little boy had been marked this way, the brother put him into a little chest and threw the chest into the sea.
