Moral Politics in a Global Era

We are accustomed to thinking that globalization causes economic, political, and social liberalization. In the case of gender issues tied to religion, this is not necessarily the case. There are two main, competing external influences when it comes to domestic moral politics: liberal countries and international institutions, and their ties with the domestic Left and feminists, and the-increasingly conservative-Vatican (and the international religious Right more generally) and its influence on and through the domestic Catholic Church and Catholic organizations.1
