ABSTRACT
This chapter details the transition from a historically nearly absent federal role in education fi nance and governance, through signifi cant expansions in federal infl uence in the post-World War II period, to the current peak of federal involvement in educational policy and practice at the classroom level with the implementation of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).
