ABSTRACT
The method of Begriffsgechichte or conceptual history takes as its starting point a specific word that conveys a concept, and looks for its changing function in specific literary and historical contexts. In what follows, I will give a brief historical outline of the concept of conscience in Christian tradition and European philosophy, taking account of changing contexts.
