ABSTRACT

I have outlined some evidence in the previous chapter to show that there is a movement to integrate different theories when working with infants and their families. However, there is a dearth of work in both the psychodynamic and the child development literature examining speci®c links between containment and reciprocity. This chapter will outline the attempts to bring together different theoretical strands and research from different areas where there are links to containment/ reciprocity, but it is a short chapter because there is a lack of directly relevant work!
