ABSTRACT

This book has considered a number of areas and approaches, including discussions about creativity, science, sociology, and consciousness, and studies of art, identity and social experience. In this concluding chapter I want to move beyond discussion of views, and to make some assertions about what we have found. Readers are always free to disagree with these arguments, of course – we learnt from Popper, way back in Chapter 3, that scientific understanding is advanced through researchers having the freedom to make any kind of claim, as long as it is concrete enough for others to test it and potentially disagree with it. The eleven findings are divided into three sections: ‘Method’, ‘Understanding social experience and identities’ and ‘Media audiences’.
