ABSTRACT

In Learning to Teach Design and Technology in the Secondary School (Owen-Jackson 2007) published by Routledge, Chapter 4 considers the subject knowledge required to teach control and systems. Since the publication of that book, this area of the Design and Technology curriculum has increasingly become known as ‘electronics and communications technology’ (ECT) to reflect the huge growth in telecommunications and information technology, and the original text has been revised to take account of these developments. In this chapter we have provided an up-dated ECT subject knowledge audit.
