ABSTRACT
Iranian radio, founded on 24 April 1940,1 has always been owned by the state. Television first appeared as a private station, Iranian Television, in 1958, but was bought by the state in 1966 and later merged with the newly founded state-owned station, National Television,2 to form the National Iranian Television (NITV).3
