The Iranian journalists’ largest pre-Revolution trade organization, Sandika-ye Nevissandegan va Khabarnegaran-e Matbou’at (The Syndicate of Newspaper Writers and Reporters), was formed in 1962, with the ‘special support’ of Mohammad-Reza Shah,1 and backed by his longest-serving Prime Minister, Amir-Abbas Hoveyda.2
