ABSTRACT
Technological advances and a warmer climate have made rich hydrocarbon reserves in the Arctic increasingly accessible. The opportunities of social and economic developments in the region have been enhanced, but a future escalation of oil and gas extraction and transportation can also involve potential threats to the Arctic environment.
