ABSTRACT

Drama is playing. It is a process (playing) which might ultimately lead to a product (a play), but not necessarily. Art is about playing. Picasso talked about all children being artists, and the problem that most would not be once they grew up. Many of us forget how to play in this way or education takes it away from us. For children, dramatic play is their first art form. It is how they initially engage with life and learning. So drama is, at its simplest, play; but play with a purpose. And that purpose is to make things visible.
