It will consider the importance of the supporting adult’s own perceptions and attitudes, and awareness of the issues and current thinking on effective teaching of mathematics. The chapter will also consider the importance of a resource-rich environment that will take account of children’s learning styles to facilitate understanding and develop children’s interest and capabilities in mathematics.
