ABSTRACT

Deciding to become a teaching assistant (TA) is an incredibly exciting step to take. The role of TAs in schools is expanding significantly right now along with the numbers of TAs themselves. The latest government figures available (January 2006) show that there are 152,800 support staff in state-maintained schools in England, with approximately three times more in primary schools than in secondary schools. That’s a very substantial number and all the evidence suggests this will continue to rise in coming years.
