ABSTRACT

My interest and concern throughout this book has been with representational and communicational resources, and learning and teaching with new technologies. I have offered a detailed analysis of how technologies reshape knowledge, literacy and pedagogy in the school classroom. In this final chapter I ‘draw back’ from this detailed look through the multimodal lens to make some brief general points. I want to elaborate on some of the ideas in the book a bit further, rather than, ‘tie up’ the loose ends of the themes that weave throughout. One general point to make straight away is that while the examples in this book focus on the school, with the changing conditions for learning, the discussion that surrounds these examples, in relation to learning, representation and communication and the methodological perspective of multimodality, is applicable to all sites of learning, including the home.
