ABSTRACT

We have looked at how children seek to understand the world and the objects in it. They also seek to understand and explain wider aspects of the world. They ask questions about how things happen and why: they want to know how things used to be; they want to know what it is like in places they encounter in books, on television or through family links. And through their explorations they attempt to express their ideas and thoughts and feelings as they represent what they learn. In the Foundation Stage, two areas of learning are involved: ‘knowledge and understanding of the world’ and ‘creative development’.
