ABSTRACT
About one hundred years ago, Liang Qichao, a well-known thinker in
modern China, said that since the invasion of the Western countries China’s world had been, not as China in China thousands of years ago,
or as China in Asia around hundreds of years ago, but as ‘‘China in the
world.’’ The major implication for ‘‘China in the world’’ is that it needs
to enter international society gradually instead of trying to remain outside
of it.
