What is war? A view from strategic studies [2005]

I believe that the claims and arguments itemized in the following paragraphs are widely shared among those of us who are proud to wear the label “strategist,” but since I have no authority to speak for anyone other than myself, this has to be a strictly personal statement. In summary form, I attempt to explain the most vital elements in the strategist’s (at least, this strategist’s) credo.
