Race and disability: Just a double oppression?

There is a temptation to represent the experience of disabled people within ethnic minority communities as a ‘double oppression’. It is assumed that these people have to contend with the disabling experience of impairment. Yet they do so within a social environment which is discriminatory and bigoted against ethnic minority communities in Britain (Confederation of Indian Organizations, 1987).
