ABSTRACT

Adoption is a lifespan developmental process that has different tasks at different stages for each member of the family.

For the adopted child these stages include the following:

• Pre-adoption • The period when the child is with their birth family. • The period when decisions are being made about permanency, where the child

is likely to be placed in a foster family; this may include a period of ‘twintrack’ planning, when reunification and permanence are being considered simultaneously.
